B'nai Mitzvah

B'nai (Bar or Bat) Mitzvah

Training to become B'nai (Bar or Bat) Mitzvah is part of our Religious School program. The process accelerates in sixth or seventh grade in a year-long course of study with our cantor and rabbi. This preparation is celebrated when the B'nai Mitzvah reads Torah and offers a sermon before our congregation during our Shabbat morning service. For more information, please contact Rabbi Stacy Petersohn, Director of Lifelong Jewish Learning

Adult B'nai Mitzvah

As with so many other things, COVID prevented us from being together for the Adult B'nai Mitzvah class, but we’re ready to get started on Thursday, September 8! This class will be taught by Cantor Julie Steinberg.

If you are a CBI member, and you did not become b'nai mitzvah in your youth, for whatever reason (e.g., your congregation didn’t offer the opportunity, or you have become Jewish later in life), this journey is for you. We will meet weekly (with some agreed-upon breaks) on Thursday evenings from 6:30 – 8:00 PM to learn basic Hebrew, study the liturgy of the prayer book (siddur), learn about holidays and Jewish lifecycle traditions, learn to chant Torah, and become b'nai mitzvah together on Shabbat morning, June 1, 2024!

Registration for this program is now closed.

If you have questions about the class format or other details, please email Cantor Steinberg
